Anche se l'inverno non accenna a finire, la stagione agonistica 2010 è iniziata regolarmente, tra una nevicata e l'altra.

Il pilota inglese Lea Gourlay è stato il primo a scendere in pista con la Paton nel 2010, anche se in questo caso lo ha fatto col caldo, essendo andato a correre al "31° Classic Festival" di Pukekohe in Nuova Zelanda.

In sella alla Paton del Team Winfield Lea non ha deluso le aspettative, vincendo 5 delle 8 gare alle quali ha partecipato e classificandosi 1 volta 2° e 2 volte 3° nelle restanti 3, facendo tra l'altro registrare il nuovo record sul giro!

 

In Europa la prima gara per moto d'epoca, valida per il Campionato Italiano 2010, si è svolta nel weekend del 6-7 marzo all'autodromo di Vallelunga, dove il freddo polare è stato solo in parte mitigato dal sole che illuminato le giornate di sabato e domenica dopo la pioggia del venerdì.

Al via delle gare del "Trofeo Nazionale Gruppo 5" si sono presentate 3 Paton BIC 500 8v RU : 2 hanno corso nella classe "GP 500 Epoca" (Vintage 1, moto fino al 31/12/1970) ed 1, quella del  Team Altinier, nella "GP 500 Classiche" (Vintage 2, moto fino al 31/12/1977).

Nella "GP 500 Epoca" pole, miglior giro in gara  e vittoria di Marco Dall'Aglio in sella alla Paton del Team Trans Ferry, seguito da Dario Tosolini, che partendo dalla 2a posizione in griglia restava per tutta la gara in scia a Dall'Aglio: 3° al traguardo Roberto Germann con la Triumph 750 preparata da Pinuccio Pettinari.

Un risultato di tutto rispetto, considerando che le Paton hanno dovuto adeguarsi al nuovo regolamento 2010 per la classe "GP 500 Epoca", secondo il quale la larghezza massima del pneumatico posteriore è stata ridotta a 110.

 

Proprio questa è la ragione per la quale il Team Altinier ha deciso di spostarsi nella classe "GP 500 Classiche", utilizzando una Paton BIC 500 8v in versione post 1970, con freni anteriori a disco e pneumatico largo (lo stesso usato l'anno scorso) al posteriore.

Il pilota è sempre Duilio Damiani, Campione Italiano in carica della classe Gruppo 5 "GP 500 Epoca" su Paton BIC 500 8v, che si è ben difeso classificandosi 4° assoluto e 1° di classe (Classiche 500 4 tempi).

 

Appuntamento a Adria il 10-11 aprile prossimi per la 2a gara del Campionato Italiano di categoria.

 

 

Even if the winter seems to be far from the end, 2010 racing season regularly had its start, in the between of snow falls.

Britsh rider Lea Gourlay was the first in 2010 to bring the Paton on the grid, even if he cleverly opted for a warm place: he went to the Pukekohe's "31st Classic Festival", New Zealand.

Astride Team Winfield's Paton he was well up the expectations: out of the 8 races he got the start to, he finished 5 times 1st, once 2nd and twice 3rd, no losing the opportunity to set new lap and race record!

 

Here in Europe the very first 2010 racing event for Vintage and Classic Bikes was held at Vallelunga Race Track, near Rome, on March 6-7, where a polar-cold weather was only slightly mitigated by the sunshine on Saturday and Sunday, after the rain which stopped free practice on Friday.

 

On the "Trofeo Nazionale Gruppo 5" starting grid were 3 Paton BIC 500 8v RU : 2 had been entered in the "Epoca 500" class (Vintage 1, bikes up to 31/12/1970) and the 3rd one, belonging to Team Altinier , had been entered in the "Classiche 500" (Vintage 2, bikes up to 31/12/1977).

 

In the "Epoca 500" Marco Dall'Aglio and his Team Trans Ferry's Paton set the pole, fastest race lap and was first on the podium: Dario Tosolini, on his Paton, started from the 2nd place on the grid, set the 2nd best race lap and was 2nd at the Finish Line, in front of Roberto Germann and his Triumph 750 tuned by Pinuccio Pettinari.

 

An excellent result, keeping in mind that Paton had to follow new 2010 F.M.I. rules for "GP 500 Epoca" class, with maximum rear- tyre syze reduced to 110.

 

This is the reason why Team Altinier moved to "GP 500 Classiche" class, racing a Paton BIC 500 8v in post 1970 specs, with large rear tyre (the same eligible till last year in the "GP 500 Epoca") and front disc-brakes.

Rider Duilio Damiani, Gruppo 5 "GP 500 Epoca" 2009 Italian Champion on a Paton BIC 500 8v, was brilliant and finished the race 4th overall and 1st of his class (4 stroke Classiche).

 

Now we have to wait till next April 10-11th, when the 2nd Italian Championship race will be held on Adria race-track.
